Impact of the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement on Resellers

Upon signing the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement there will be some critical changes to the system and obligations of a Reseller with respect to domain registration services. With a series of blog posts to come, we will highlight the changes Resellers can expect in the system which will go live by 1st January 2014. Today we want to talk about the change in the WHOIS output format prescribed by ICANN in the 2013 RAA

According to the 2013 RAA Registrars will be required to display whois information in a format specified under the Registration Data Directory Service (WHOIS) Specification.

Resellers should take note of the following points that impact them:

1> As a result of this update, legacy branding of the whois output will no longer be available.
2> We will rename the field “Reseller” and change it to “Registration Service Provider”. This field will display the Reseller Brand Name as set in the control panel.
3> Resellers should take note of the the fact that Registrars will be required to display their Abuse Contact Email Address and Phone Number.
4> This change is expected to go live by Monday, Dec 2.
